Slow slips the sun

Slow slips the sun tonight as dusk displaces day
And slow slips today away…. as it turns into yesterday.

Slow slips the shooting star that lights the nighttime sky
Slow slips the muscled frame, decayed by a life of toil
Slow slips a single year of life, which quickly rushes by
And slow slips four score and ten….  our time upon this soil.

Slow slips the present, our welcome we have outstayed
Slow slips the future, the sun’s  waved it’s last goodbye
Slow slips the past…  when aging memories start to fade
And slow slips our life away….  with that final, parting, sigh.

Slow slips the memory of our time upon this earth
And slow slips the book of life…. as death gives way to birth.
